Guided lessons & notes journal

Upload presentations, lead a live class, run comprehension checks, and save student notes.

Prepare a presentation

Teachers open Guided lessons and expand Upload & manage presentation library. YFLP shared decks appear alongside your school’s presentations.

  1. Export the presentation from PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Canva as a standard, unencrypted PDF. Upload up to 10 MB and 60 slides.
  2. Review the accessible text for every slide. Image-only slides need a typed text description before saving.
  3. Add checkpoint or end-quiz questions. Multiple-choice questions need 2–6 choices and a correct answer; written responses are reviewed by the teacher.
  4. Save the presentation. Editing its text or question bank affects future sessions; existing sessions keep their saved copy. Archive a deck to remove it from future session choices.

Lead a classroom session

Only the assigned teacher, authorized school/district administrators, or the platform owner can manage the class session. The school must have an active student collection review.

  1. Select your class and a ready school or shared YFLP presentation. Choose which questions to keep or add your own. Published lesson response prompts can be added to the end quiz.
  2. Create the session. Authorized, enrolled class students are invited automatically; a class has one open session at a time.
  3. Open Join code & assignment publishing. Share the code or join link securely with your class. Enable Publish in class assignments, optionally attaching the session to an existing assignment from that class. Published sessions appear in Assignments; attached sessions also appear in the assignment and its Lesson Player after the assignment is released. Unpublishing removes assignment entry links; the class invitation and teacher-shared code remain available.
  4. Start the lesson, move between slides, show a checkpoint, or open the end quiz. Connected student screens refresh about every four seconds. Read the connection warning if a device cannot sync.
  5. Expand Add or adjust session questions to add checks while teaching. Questions with submitted answers cannot be removed or changed.
  6. Pause to stop new responses. Pause & release answer feedback shows the answer key and explanations to joined students. End lesson closes the session permanently.
  7. Use Participants to remove someone from this session or restore an enrolled student. Class membership and enrollment are managed separately from the session roster.
  8. Review submitted answers and export an authorized response report. These formative checks do not automatically change assignment grades.

Join and take notes

Students enter the teacher’s code at /lesson-join, open a published guided lesson in Assignments, or choose a session from Guided lessons. Each opens in the separate Lesson Player. Only authorized, enrolled students invited to that session can join.

  1. The teacher controls the current slide, checkpoint, or end quiz. Submit each answer once; teachers can see submitted responses.
  2. Write in Your notes. Notes autosave after you pause typing and can be saved manually. Wait for Saved to your notes journal before leaving.
  3. If a save fails, the draft stays on the page. Keep it open and retry. If another device edited the note, review the saved version before discarding your draft.
  4. Open Notes journal to search, edit, or download your own saved notes. Personal notes are separate from responses submitted to your teacher.
  5. Use fictional financial examples and omit sensitive personal information. Journal notes and guided answers are included in authorized privacy exports and school retention/deletion workflows.
