Parent-led individual child accounts
Verify the parent email, complete consent and create a linked under-13 account without a school code.
Start with the parent account
At /family/signup, the adult parent enters their own email and date of birth and acknowledges the parent-account notices. The birthdate is checked for adult eligibility and is not retained. The account service sends a confirmation code or secure sign-in link, depending on its configured email template. Existing adult parent accounts can sign in and continue.
Consent comes before the child account
After email verification, the parent submits an electronic signature, direct-notice acknowledgement and the child email needed for consent. No child name, password or learning profile is collected yet. YFLP verifies parental authority and signed consent. Email control, a typed birthdate and a signature alone do not establish that authority. Complete operator contact details are also required before under-13 activation.
Create and link after review
Refresh status. When consent is approved and available, the parent sets the child display name and password and creates the account. The server applies the reviewed authorization without asking the parent to copy a signup token. The database links the child to this parent request atomically. Confirm the child account email, then sign in with the child account. The parent stays signed into their separate account, and no school membership is created.
Requests and retention
Cancel an uncompleted request to withdraw it and remove its consent-only child contact. Unanswered requests expire after seven days. Use /legal/requests to request access, correction, deletion or withdrawal for a linked child. Verification still applies before child records are disclosed. When the child account is deleted, its contact is also cleared from this onboarding link. Teens aged 13–17 retain the direct individual signup option with required parent permission.
Your verified membership determines access. Instructions describe the current platform; school policies may add requirements.
